"I will give you the Word all the scriptures glorify,
all spiritual disciplines express,
to attain which aspirants lead
a life of sense-restraint and self-naughting.
It is OM. This symbol of the Godhead is the highest.
Realizing it one finds complete fulfillment of all one's longings.
It is of the greatest support to all seekers.
Those in whose hearts OM reverberates unceasingly are indeed blessed
and deeply loved as one who is the Self."
- The Katha Upanishad - 1.2.15
CHANT
OM (or ONG) NAMO GURU DEV NAMO
Meaning: I bowed my head to God and God took all of me. Every imperfection, God took all of me. And everyday God lives and breathes through me. Looking in the mirror, I love you sweet God. -Snatam Kaur
Both Om and Ong have strong vibratory effects. While Om refers
to the force of all creation, Ong refers to the Creator, who is the Doer of all action.
Chant this mantra at least 3 times with your hands at your heart in Anjali Mudra.
With my daughter down for a nap I had a wonderful opportunity to meditate this afternoon. When I came out of my 7 minute (yea!) meditation my eyes immediately focused on a beautiful pink flower in my backyard. I sat and looked at this flower and contemplated its pure beauty and saw God in it. The vivid color of the flower and the way it sweetly swayed in the breeze brought a tear to my eye. What a delight to experience this.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed chanting today. I have been really focusing my energy on the tapas..the self-discipline of this process. Sometimes that means saying no to that glass of wine, or no to seconds. Or yes...I cam meditate 2 more minutes this morning. I've realized that the tapas in my life makes me smile, makes me more aware.
ReplyDeleteI have been battling a very bad cold all week. I think of it as a new, more renewed self coming out. The toxins that are in my body are coming out and have needed to come out for a reason......for me to reach that next level, for a change to happpen with my inner and outer self.
I crave an extra ordinary experience everyday and this Yoga Training has given me that.....every day!
Shanti!
Happy BIRTHDAY Mary-Michael! Hope you have the most perfect DAY!!!!

Om Mata Om Mata Om Shri Mata Jagate Mata....School started this week. I am a fulltime student at USCB. I have to drive to Beaufort 4 times a week. So, I have been chanting on my drives. It looks like I am just singing along to the radio, so its nice. I kept my chants from the Kirtan, recite what we wrote in our prayer book, the yamas, the niyamas, and mix them all up while Im driving to class. I find it helps me focus and clears my head. I feel lifted up and peaceful after my chanting. Last night my husband taught me a few chords on the guitar. I hope to be able to strum along with him and teach him my new songs. Om is the word is right! Oh and Happy Birthday Mary- Michael...Enjoy your silent retreat...Oh and if anyone wants to go with me to Savannah for a Jivamukti workshop on the 12th of Sept, let me know. Its a 2 hour workshop with Andrea Boyd...Keep chanting!
